Boxing Sisters - A Listening Event

Hosted by Full Moon Revolution supporting The Lotus Flower

Join The Lotus Flowerfor a powerful evening of storytelling, community, and conversation as we come together to listen to Boxing Sisters, a moving BBC World Service documentary that shines a light on hope, healing, and resilience in the face of unimaginable trauma.

In 2024, award-winning radio producer Jodie Taylor travelled to Northern Iraq to document how The Lotus Flower’s groundbreaking Boxing Sisters programme is helping Yazidi women reclaim their bodies, rebuild their lives, and heal from the horrors of genocide through the transformative power of boxing.

Through the voices of these brave women and girls, Boxing Sisters takes us deep inside their world, sharing how their courage is not only changing their own lives but also gently shifting attitudes within their conservative Yazidi community.

After the listening session, there will be a conversation between Jodie Taylor with Taban Shoresh, Founder and CEO of The Lotus Flower and survivor of genocide herself, to explore the deeper story behind the programme and how sport, solidarity, and storytelling can ignite real change.

This is more than an event, it’s a space where culture, community and conversation meet. We will be providing some lovely traditional Kurdish treats too!

Empowering Palestinian Women - With Taban Shoresh & Raja Hamyel

In a world shaken by conflict, injustice, and the silencing of voices, it has never been more important to come together, to listen, to learn, and to act.

At Full Moon Revolution, we believe in creating spaces where communities, cultures, and conversations can flourish, in spaces where stories that need to be heard are given the spotlight.

As violence unfolds in Gaza, we are honoured to host this special conversation amplifying the voices of Palestinian women who are leading change, resilience, and hope against all odds.

Where women’s voices are often marginalised, the Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association – ASALA is working to rewrite the narrative.

This live Q&A offers an intimate glimpse into the lives, challenges, and triumphs of Palestinian women and entrepreneurs.

Join Raja Hamal, a leading voice in women’s empowerment, and Taban Shoresh as they discuss resilience, entrepreneurship, and grassroots change in the face of adversity.

This is more than just a conversation, it's an invitation to listen, to learn, to witness, and to act. Together, we can ensure Palestinian women are seen, heard, and supported.

You’ll hear about ASALA’s life-changing work and explore practical ways to stand in solidarity.

Why Attend?

When Existance Is Resistance - Being LGBTQ+ Where It’s Dangerous to Be Seen

In some parts of the world being LBGTQIA+ is a criminalised identity, punishable by violence, imprisonment, or even death. Even if you’re seen as an ally. This event invites you into a vital, rarely-heard conversation with Fabian Frank-Kagimu, Executive Director of PRISM Empowerment and Development Initiatives (PEDI Uganda) a trans-led, grassroots organisation working on the frontlines of this reality. Fabian will be talking to us live via video call .In conversation with a facilitator passionate about global justice speaking about other areas of the world where being LBGTQIA+ is criminalised. They will share powerful stories into what it means to exist in a country that criminalises your existence, and how queer people survive and resist in contexts shaped by crisis, criminalisation and displacement.

Why This Matters:

  • Because being LGBTQIA+ should not be a death sentence.

  • Because queerness in some parts of the world is still illegal.

  • Because many people have little exposure to what queer life looks like in parts of the world where it’s dangerous to be queer

About PEDI Uganda:PRISM Empowerment and Development Initiatives (PEDI Uganda) supports transgender women in Uganda through holistic, life-saving work:Mental health services: free counselling, therapy, and support groupsEmergency aid: food, shelter, and crisis support for trans people under threatEconomic empowerment: business training, innovation, and sustainable livelihoodsAdvocacy & visibility: pushing for the inclusion of trans people in national and global frameworksTheir impact has reached over 200 trans women through frontline care, trauma-informed services, and visibility in spaces where queer voices are often erased.

Who is this event for?

This event is for those who care about LBGTQIA+ liberation, global solidarity, and justice. Whether you’re LGBTQIA+, a human rights advocate, a student, or someone seeking to understand more, this space is for you.Expect truth and heart. Come with curiosity, leave with a deeper understanding of the realities queer people face across different cultural, legal, and political landscapes. This isn’t just a conversation. It’s an invitation to witness, to feel, and to respond. To see how queerness is criminalised in some corners of the world, and how community still rises.
